API Architect
Objective of the mission
The National Geographic Institute (NGI) aims to build a modern infrastructure for providing geographic data via OGC APIs, as a complement to the existing infrastructure for offering OGC web services (WMS, WMTS, WFS). This new technology must:
- Be performant: respond quickly and withstand high loads.
- Be reliable: stable and fault-tolerant.
- Be scalable: prepared for future growth and expansion.
The OGC APIs will contribute to:
- Complying with European regulations regarding Open Data, PSI (Public Sector Information), and High Value Datasets.
- Facilitating application development, both internally at NGI and externally.
- Eventually replacing older OGC standards.
This consultancy assignment concerns support in 2026 with:
- Architecture and design of the solution for OGC APIs.
- Implementation and configuration of the infrastructure.
- Optimization for performance, reliability, and scalability.

Estimated total duration of the assignment
Total estimated duration of the assignment: maximum 120 working days. This is an upper limit; depending on the availability and accumulated competence of internal staff, the number of days to be performed by the API architect may be lower.
Profile of the sought consultant
- GIS API architect with proven experience in:
- Design and implementation of API architectures.
- (OGC) API standards and geodata infrastructures.
- Hands-on development and configuration.
- Knowledge of cloud and container technology.
- Experience with performance optimization and API security.
