Application Owner/ Ops Engineer
Context
The National Institute for the Social Security of the Self-Employed (RSVZ) protects the social status of self-employed entrepreneurs—from the founding of their business to after their retirement—and thus contributes to their social and economic well-being.
The IT department is a dynamic environment that responds to technological evolutions. More than 150 people work in this department, and the work is organized in an agile way (scrum methodology). Since RSVZ is a federal institution, stakeholders are either Dutch or French speaking.
The Application Owner / Ops Engineer is an integral part of a development team. There is multidisciplinary collaboration and each team consists of a scrum master, business analysts, developers, testers, a product owner, as well as an AO/Ops Engineer.
Within the development team, the AO/Ops Engineer is responsible for the management and proper functioning of a number of business applications and acts as the SPOC for these applications. He/she is in contact with the helpdesk or technical expert regarding structural problems, with both IT and the business who in turn represent the users, as well as with external parties.
Key responsibilities
Monitoring and reporting on the components from the team that are running in production.
- Following up on production issues reported by the business.
- Together with the team, searching for the cause and possible solutions for production issues.
- Helping to test newly developed software to ensure it remains stable.
- Testing and validating “fixes” for issues in production.
- Providing support during the release.
As a team member, the AO/Ops Engineer also contributes to the development of these business applications. He/she does this always in close collaboration with colleague team members.
The AO-Ops Engineer is capable of developing or modifying code, preparing the necessary queries, and performing analyses. This also includes preparing the associated documentation. All this according to the Agile method.
He/she is (together with the team) responsible for monitoring the reported incidents. This includes identification, analysis, correction, testing. Communication with the client is also an important aspect here.
In the context of ongoing projects, the AO-Ops Engineer acts as an expert. In addition, he/she ensures the continuity of the applications and is, together with the team, responsible for and involved in the qualitative delivery of the components.
The AO/Ops Engineer advises IT colleagues and users in the development of new projects in the domains and applications for which the team is responsible.
