Atlassian Xray Specialist

Who are we?

The National Lottery celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2024 and remains true to its historic model: numerous players, reasonable stakes, a game that is by nature responsible, centered around a selection of iconic games and close connections with all Belgians, notably through its support for good causes.

The National Lottery was lucky… and was ready: €1.666 billion in stakes in 2025 – a record level!

“Being ready” is first and foremost a question of capacity. Concretely, this means we must be able to absorb very high peaks of activity, sometimes reaching up to 5,000 participations per minute. This capacity is based on a solid ecosystem: a dense network, growing digital (massively mobile), and an app that has become second nature for many players. The continuity between retail and digital has been reinforced with concrete actions that have now become habits: consulting, scanning, buying, checking.

Beyond flagship games like EuroMillions – the most played game in 2025 with 67.3 million gaming moments (across all channels) – and the renewal of Lotto with ‘the house’ as a monthly event on the last Saturday of the month, the momentum is spreading throughout the entire portfolio. Instant games are confirming their popularity, continuing to grow and also contributing to overall growth. Finally, the fourth pillar of growth is confirmed with the other traditional draw games, which continue to perform well and strengthen the balance of the National Lottery’s game portfolio.

This record year confirms the strength of the “hybrid” model, where the proximity network and digital reinforce each other. The retail channel remains dominant: €1.172 billion in sales in 2025 (+2.8%), representing 70.3% of stakes, and 6,748 points of sale. Digital continues its progression: €494 million (+19.6%), or 29.7% of stakes, with very high mobile usage (76.2% via mobile).

“We have become one of the largest e-commerce ecosystems in the country. And yet, our strength remains the same: a proximity lottery — both digital and physical,” says Jannie Haek, CEO of the National Lottery.

A record turnover and a record number of transactions also lead to an increase in winnings. In 2025, the National Lottery paid out €1.266 billion in winnings to its players through 117.2 million winning gaming moments. The number of winnings distributed increased by 17% compared to 2024, and the average win rose by about one euro.

But at the National Lottery, you never win alone. The very principle of a public lottery is that individual luck is embedded in a collective model: the winners do not take all the stakes, a part serves the community. Thus, in the end, luck benefits everyone: the winners… and society.

“A record is good. But our real pride is to remain a popular, responsible lottery, serving the country. At the National Lottery, you never win alone,” concludes Jannie Haek.
