Azure Data Engineer / Data Scientist

Azure Data Engineer / Data Scientist

Full-time contract from mid-October 2026 until the end of December 2026, with a possible extension beyond December subject to budget approval.

Context

As part of its 2026 roadmap, STIB is delivering a set of strategic data use cases on its Azure Databricks platform. To help us deliver on time, we are looking for an experienced Azure Data Engineer / Data Scientist to strengthen our Data & Analytics team.

Main Mission:

As a Azure Data Engineer / Data Scientist, you will bridge data engineering and data science to bring our use cases into production before the end of the year. You will build and optimise data pipelines in Databricks, take ownership of the models and indicator calculations already developed by the team, and adapt or improve them where needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and optimise data pipelines in Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory to feed the use cases.
  • Industrialise models and calculations so they run reliably in production (scheduling, monitoring, data quality checks).
  • Build and support Power BI reports, including data modelling, DAX measures, report design, performance optimisation and alignment with business reporting needs.
  • Quickly understand the existing models and calculation logic, including anomaly detection models (statistical methods and Isolation Forest) and indicator calculations.
  • Modify, retrain, validate and improve these models and indicators when business needs or data evolve.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Scientist and business stakeholders to translate needs into concrete deliverables.
  • Document data flows, models, calculation logic and best practices to ensure a smooth handover at the end of the assignment.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with Azure Databricks and Azure services: Data Factory, Azure Storage, Key Vault, Azure DevOps.
  • Strong experience with Spark/PySpark and Delta Lake / Lakehouse architectures.
  • Strong skills in SQL and Python (pandas, scikit-learn).
  • Strong experience building Power BI reports, including semantic/data modelling, DAX, visual design, performance optimisation and deployment best practices.
  • Knowledge of statistics and machine learning, in particular anomaly detection techniques (e.g. statistical thresholds, Isolation Forest).
  • Ability to read, understand and take over existing code and models developed by others.
  • Adhere to best practices.

Profile:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data science and/or data engineering, with hands-on experience in both.
  • Proven ability to be operational quickly and deliver within tight deadlines.
  • Analytical mindset, attention to detail, autonomy, and team spirit.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with MLOps practices (e.g. MLflow, model versioning, CI/CD).
  • Databricks certification (e.g., Databricks Data Engineer Associate or Machine Learning Associate).
  • Microsoft Azure certification (e.g., DP-100 Azure Data Scientist Associate).
  • Microsoft Power BI certification, such as PL-300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst.
  • Experience in public transport, mobility or energy sectors.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Basic SAP knowledge (S4/Hana as a major data source).

If you thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy working across the full data lifecycle and want to make a real impact on the electrification of public transport in Brussels, we’d love to hear from you!
