Since January 1, 2025, the official WMO data exchange system is the WIS 2.0 system, replacing the former GTS system.

The goal of the project is to install a WIS 2.0 node at the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI), and to encode data according to the required standards, in order to be compatible with the latest international norms.

More specifically, the expected deliverables are:

• Deployment of a functional WIS 2.0 node at the RMI, integrating into the WMO structure
• Provision of already compliant data in this infrastructure (hourly and sub-hourly synoptic data, volumetric radar data, ...)
• Retrieval of data from other institutes necessary for our activities via the WIS 2.0 system
• Update of the encoding for data that are not yet compliant (soundings, marine observations, ...), then provision of these data via the WIS 2.0 system
