Senior IAM Consultants – identity security Modernization

In the context of an identity management study exercise at Smals, we are looking for two (one native NL & one native FR) senior Identity management consultants to support the strategic assessment, scoping, and roadmap definition for a centralized Digital Identity & Access Management (IAM) solution. As identity management experts, you will work closely with Smals stakeholders to evaluate the current identity landscape, define the long-term vision, and propose governance and organizational structures to ensure future success. You will combine technical depth with strong architectural skills to guide Smals in establishing a secure, efficient, and user-friendly IAM system.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct stakeholder interviews and map existing digital identities (customers, partners, workforce).
  • Analyze the current state of identity storage and access management processes.
  • Define the IAM program’s vision, mission, and key use cases.
  • Design a conceptual framework for a centralized IAM solution, prioritizing processes before tooling.
  • Develop a phased, multi-year roadmap and propose a target IAM architecture.
  • Define governance, team structures, roles, and responsibilities for a dedicated IAM function.
  • Provide guidance in monthly Steering Committee meetings, ensuring alignment and progress tracking.
  • Deliver expertise in IAM best practices, security models, and regulatory standards.

Experiences

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Identity & Access Management and security engineering.
  • Proven track record in IAM modernization projects, roadmap definition, and governance design.
  • Hands-on expertise with IAM architecture and implementation (AM, IDM, DS, IG) and integration with external identity providers.
  • Experience with OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, Ping Identity solutions, and federation models.
  • Strong background in penetration testing, security audits, and access control architecture.
  • Practical experience in automation and DevOps methodologies (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD, monitoring with Prometheus/Grafana).
  • Exposure to complex environments in healthcare and public sector organizations.

  • Languages: French, Dutch, and English (working proficiency required).

Mission & Working Hours

  • Location: Brussels (Smals HQ)
  • Contract: mission assignment of 23 days from start to deliverables.
  • Working hours: Based on the planning of the workload
