Location: Brussels (Etterbeek)
Telework: 2 days per week
On call duty: 1 week per month
Resident in Belgium
Join the National Technical & Tactical Support Unit (NTSU), part of the Special Units of the Federal Police. This unit plays a crucial role in supporting judicial and national security operations across Belgium, through cutting-edge technical and tactical means.
You will work within the CTIF (Central Technical Interception Facility), responsible for the real-time observation and interception of telecommunications. The systems involved are highly sensitive and legally reserved for law enforcement and intelligence use. Your role will support missions at the core of serious crime and terrorism investigations.
We offer a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful and high-impact work, with technologies that are rarely accessible outside the intelligence and security world.
Your mission
As an IT Application Support Engineer, you will be the bridge between a complex proprietary system (black box) and its operational users. You will not have access to the internal code, but through structured testing, observation, and communication with the provider, you will ensure the application performs as expected and supports investigative needs.
You will work at the intersection of functional analysis, technical validation, and secure operations. You will help uncover how the system behaves, detect errors, and guide the resolution process with external vendors.
Key responsibilities
- Provide functional and technical support for a highly specialized black-box application used in tactical operations.
- Analyze the application’s behavior based on testing, telemetry, logs, and real-life scenarios – even without access to the source code.
- Develop and execute test scenarios to validate features, investigate anomalies, and support upgrades.
- Act as the liaison with providers to report issues, follow up on bugs, and align expectations.
- Create and maintain precise documentation (test reports, user manuals, operating procedures).
- Contribute to structured release and deployment processes.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, while also being capable of autonomous troubleshooting.
- Ensure a high level of discretion, reliability, and traceability in everything you do.
Who you are
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in IT, or equivalent professional experience.
- You have 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in IT application support or system validation.
- You are comfortable working with black-box systems, and know how to approach them analytically.
- You have experience coordinating with external technical providers or vendors.
- You are fluent in Dutch or French, with a good understanding of the other language.
- You have a good command of technical English, spoken and written.
- You work with rigor and discretion. Confidentiality and reliability are second nature to you.
- You enjoy complex challenges where structure, curiosity, and persistence are required.
- Telecommunication experience is a plus.
Why join us?
- Work at the front line of national security operations.
- Use and support unique systems rarely seen outside of law enforcement.
- Operate in a high-trust, mission-driven environment.
- Grow your technical and analytical skills in a challenging yet structured context.
- Be part of a team that values precision, curiosity, and impact.
