Role: IT Expert - European Commission

Location: Brussels, Belgium - European Commission

Responsibilities:

Following tasks will be performed by external service provider:

  • Lead the exploration and implementation of generative AI and agent-based technologies (e.g. GPT@JRC, Claude, OpenAI) to enhance the automation, scalability, and contextual intelligence of semantic modelling processes and activities. Design prototypes with the support of other contractors and also oversee production-ready solutions aligned with the goals.
  • Closely follow the evolving landscape of activities, ensuring that the work on semantic interoperability benefits from and contributes to the broader institutional AI strategy. Maintain regular exchanges with relevant AI-focused teams, to align efforts, identify synergies, and feedback lessons learned.
  • Coordinate the integration of AI capabilities. Explore the use of LLMs for assisting with data model classification, semantic enrichment, and automated recommendation of reusable assets.
  • Develop the use of generative AI to accelerate the modelling and alignment of interoperability artefacts in support of key EU policy initiatives, ensuring all AI-driven outputs respect principles and EU standards.
  • Contribute to other activities such as: overseeing and checking semantics activities entrusted to other services in semantics, assisting and providing guidance on adopting profiles and assist in creating additional sub-profiles where necessary, organization of workshops and conferences, writing blog posts.

Requirements:

Following skills are required for the performance of the above listed tasks:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies
  • Great experience with Semantic methodologies, Semantic transformation, Metadata modelling, Linked data
  • Really good expertise with OWL, RDF, SKOS, XML, SHACL
  • Prior experience with machine learning and AI models in particular new trends working on agents
  • Very good written and oral communication skills, proven by talks and/or publications in the technical field of the competition

Languages:

  • Excellent knowledge of English - Level B2 in Understanding, Speaking and Writing
