Junior / Medior Test Engineer

Start date: earliest June 2026
Duration: 1 year (with possible extension)

Location: Brussels + partially remote
Languages: Dutch or French + English (passive knowledge of the other national language is a plus)
Budget: 530 Euro per day, excl. VAT

Assignment Context

As Tester C, you contribute to ensuring software quality within various domains of FOD Financiën. You take an active role in the testing process, work closely with business and project teams, and help improve testing methods, test coverage, and quality.

Profile: minimum 3 years of experience as test engineer

Responsibilities

  • Executing functional and non-functional tests within various IT projects.
  • Collaborating with business analysts, project managers, and development teams to analyze requirements and derive test scenarios.
  • Actively applying agile principles: iterative work, refinement, collaboration in multidisciplinary teams, and flexibility with changing needs.
  • Creating, maintaining, and executing test cases, test scenarios, and generic Gherkin scripts.
  • Practical use of test design techniques and coverage forms.
  • Documenting test results, monitoring defect follow-up and quality status.
  • Use and management of test data.
  • Providing explanations and demonstrations of tools such as SoapUI, Postman, and Swagger, including to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Providing support and coaching to fellow testers and stakeholders.
  • Contributing ideas for continuous improvement of the testing process and making proposals for an “ideal test process”.

Technical Requirements

  • Experience with test management frameworks and methods: agile testing, structured testing, ISTQB, STBox, TMap.
  • Able to correctly apply agile principles: iterative cycles, teamwork, flexibility.
  • Familiar with basic principles of application architecture; knowledge of Java and containerization is a plus.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and Xray.
  • Strong expertise in the complete test process, both in current application and in defining an ideal process.
  • Experience in analyzing and documenting functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Practical experience with test design techniques and test coverage.
  • Experience with writing test cases and Gherkin scripts.
  • Proficient use and management of test data.
  • Experience with SoapUI, Postman, and Swagger, including providing explanations to non-technical users.
  • Knowledge of a scripting language and/or SQL.

Business and Domain Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the global structure of AAFISC within FOD Financiën (or willingness to learn this quickly).
  • Knowledge of Agile Scrum.
  • Experience with stakeholder management with a focus on constructive collaboration and proactive thinking.
  • Able to sufficiently immerse in the business matter to test with quality and understand the impact of changes.
