Microsoft Fabric Architect

For several years, the FAVV has been striving to become a fully data-driven organization and relies on a central data warehouse for its reporting and analysis.

Given rapidly evolving technologies and business needs, the FAVV now wants to modernize this platform by migrating it to the Microsoft Azure cloud. This transition is accompanied by the implementation of new, powerful tools, including Microsoft Fabric (ETL) and Power BI.

To help us meet this challenge, we are looking for a Microsoft Fabric Architect profile.

Mission:

  • Designing an entirely new Microsoft Fabric architecture, including Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks (PySpark), Pipelines, Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, and other Fabric components within the Azure Cloud.
  • Implementing and configuring the Microsoft Fabric platform and the associated Azure services.
  • Designing security and governance in accordance with the internal governance framework and data classification, including Row-Level Security, access management, Azure AD authentication, and protection of sensitive data.
  • Setting up monitoring and logging for pipelines, datasets, workloads, and notebooks, including metrics such as execution times, user activity, and resource usage.
  • Defining standards for dataset modeling, ETL processes, DAX development, and performance optimization within Fabric.
  • Ensuring optimal performance, integrity, scalability, and cost-efficiency of the data and reporting platform.
  • Integrating existing metadata management and governance tools (e.g., DataGalaxy) into the Fabric architecture.
  • Collaborating with internal teams (ICT teams, Strategic Cell, CISO, DPO) to ensure consistency and compliance with standards.
  • Documenting the architecture and training ICT teams in the use and management of Microsoft Fabric.
  • Working together with Power BI architects to ensure that reports and dashboards are optimally aligned with the Fabric data warehouse.

Expected results:

  • Microsoft Fabric is fully implemented, configured, and integrated into the data warehouse platform in the Azure Cloud, with MS Fabric being used as the ETL tool.
  • Security, governance, and metadata integration are fully operational and meet internal standards.
  • Monitoring, version management, multilingualism, and the full lifecycle of pipelines, datasets, and notebooks are operational.
  • Performance optimization and scalability are ensured for both ETL processes and reporting.
  • The established architecture excels in simplicity and is documented and explained to the internal ICT teams (BI, CCOE (Cloud Centre of Excellence), Solutions Architect).

Technical skills:

  • Expertise in Microsoft Fabric: Dataflows, Notebooks (PySpark), Pipelines, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Data Factory integrations.
  • Proven expertise in Azure Data Services.
  • Knowledge of dataset modeling, ETL optimization, SQL, DAX, and Power Query.
  • Tabular modeling and optimization of datasets in the cloud.
  • Implementation of CI/CD processes in Azure DevOps or GitHub for Fabric pipelines and assets.
  • Knowledge of Power BI integration with Fabric and other data sources.
  • Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and security standards.
  • Experience with multilingualism, version control, and publication processes in a cloud environment.
  • Knowledge of Sparx Enterprise Architect for documentation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SAP BI or other legacy data warehouses is a plus.

Required profile:

  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience with Power BI and Azure Data Services, and proven experience as an architect with Microsoft Fabric.
  • Excellent communication and didactic skills.
  • Strategic vision and focus on optimization. Ability to work in a team.
  • French/Dutch with a good passive knowledge of the other language (required).
