Network Engineer
Network Engineer
Federal Police – General Judicial Directorate
Contract until March, renewable!
Work Environment
The Federal Judicial Police is a specialized police force, primarily responsible for combating organized crime in all its forms. It is one of the three general directorates of the federal police and focuses on investigative cases related to areas such as cybercrime, terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and many more. It provides support and expertise to the entire integrated police force, as well as to its national and international partners.
Within this directorate, you will find operational resources assigned to judicial police operations, the fight against serious and organized crime, special units, as well as technical and scientific police operations.
To meet its specialized needs, the DGJ has established an IT Line consisting of a central level, in addition to various decentralized teams present within the directorates that constitute the judicial pillar. The IT line includes a Data division, specializing in data engineering and data science, a Software division that develops various applications and services, and finally, an Operation division responsible for implementing and maintaining the infrastructure on which the Data and Software divisions rely.
You will be assigned as a Network Engineer within the Operation division of the DGJ IT line. Your main role will be to ensure the design, implementation, and maintenance of the security and high availability of the network infrastructures of our datacenters and decentralized units at the national level, on which the DGJ IT line infrastructure relies.
You will therefore mainly work at the central level of the IT line but will also be required to go on-site depending on the projects.
The function includes both technical configuration work and the physical setup of various equipment such as installing server racks in datacenters, as well as managing cabling there and at decentralized sites. It is therefore a relatively diverse and rewarding role, both technically and personally.
Your expertise will support critical projects such as server migration and network upgrades to ensure they are robust, secure, and high-performing.
Main Tasks
During the first phase of your assignment, you will be responsible for the gradual migration of physical servers (classic and AI) from the current datacenter to a new datacenter.
Your main responsibilities will be as follows:
-
Familiarize yourself with the current environment and propose a migration plan detailing tasks, timelines, and identified risks.
-
Set up all network equipment and configurations necessary for installing the servers in the new datacenter.
-
Participate in the transfer of servers, including their uninstallation, transport, and reinstallation at the new site.
-
Subsequently, ensure the maintenance and updates related to the network aspects of this infrastructure.
In a second phase, you will also support the connection of different local networks to a national network. In this context, you will participate in:
-
Setting up physical connections between sites,
-
Configuring and installing firewalls.
-
Maintaining and evolving the solution.
Finally, more generally, you will provide technical support to decentralized teams of the various judicial directorates, assisting, advising, and offering them basic training to enable them to maintain a high-performance and secure network at their site.
Profile Sought
You hold a bachelor’s degree in IT (at minimum), ideally with a systems orientation, and you have several years of experience in a similar role.
You have solid experience in the following areas:
-
pfSense / OPNsense,
-
Cisco-type network equipment,
-
High availability networks.
You have good knowledge of network security and VPN technologies.
You are capable of physically installing servers in racks and performing cabling operations within a datacenter.
You can diagnose network problems, identify the cause, and provide clear and effective support to users.
Experience in Linux administration and virtualization (KVM, Proxmox) is an asset.
You demonstrate good team spirit and effective communication.
You are proficient in English as well as one of the two national languages. Active knowledge of one national language and passive (at minimum) knowledge of the other is a real added value.
Finally, knowledge of the Police environment, and more specifically of the Federal Judicial Police, is also considered an asset.
