PostgreSQL Database Administrator / Engineer
You will be assigned to the Information and ICT Directorate (DRI) of the Federal Police. The Systems Division (DIST) develops the architecture of ICT systems, organizes and manages IT systems. It is responsible for the technical analysis of needs, the development and management of the systems architecture (servers, networks, databases, communication, video), the definition of technical standards for the police organization and the implementation of IT security and protection. The division also manages the data centers as well as the central infrastructure and technical systems installed there. It also provides specialized third-line support in these areas.
The ABIS project – Automated Biometric Identification System – is a system for the storage, processing, and biometric analysis.
Mission Description
- Ensure, manage, improve, and maintain all aspects of database integration into the organization's internal and external IT and communication systems, in order to guarantee an effective, continuous, and scalable information and communication system.
- Develop standards, guidelines, and procedures for the development and evolution of technical systems. As a PostgreSQL Database Administrator, you will contribute to the digital transformation of the Integrated Police. You will ensure the implementation of a secure, modern, and high-performance database environment.
- Within a multidisciplinary team, you are responsible for the design, management, and optimization of PostgreSQL databases, with a particular focus on security and reliability.
- You will also participate in backend application development in Python and code management via GitLab.
Your tasks include:
- Management and optimization of PostgreSQL databases (backup, restore, monitoring, performance tuning)
- Design of database structures and development of data synchronization mechanisms
- Support to development projects via tailor-made database solutions
- Integration of backend Python programs with PostgreSQL
- Implementation and management of CI/CD pipelines in GitLab
- Possible support for the implementation of other database management systems
- Optional: use of the Elastic Stack for monitoring and logging
Education
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.

- Working conditions: Presence in the office at least 2 times per week depending on tasks and in agreement with the team, teleworking allowed at home (in Belgium)
