Senior Data Scientist

Context

The Data Office is the cornerstone of data and AI activities within NIHDI (INAMI-RIZIV). You will join a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, data engineers, architects, analysts, project managers and healthcare experts. Together, we are developing the next generation of anomaly-detection solutions to analyse large volumes of Belgian healthcare data, identify unusual billing patterns, prioritise high-risk cases and support medical and administrative controls with explainable, data-driven insights. The solutions are designed and industrialised using Azure Databricks, advanced machine learning and the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and industrialisation of machine-learning solutions in Azure Databricks.
  • Collaborate with healthcare domain experts, data engineers, business analysts and policy stakeholders to identify high-value use cases and translate business needs into data-driven solutions.
  • Develop anomaly-detection, risk-scoring and classification models using supervised and unsupervised techniques.
  • Define model evaluation approaches covering accuracy, explainability and operational value.
  • Collaborate with team members on data/ML pipelines, feature engineering and solution integration.
  • Use Databricks and Azure services including PySpark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, MLflow, Workflows, Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps and Azure Storage.
  • Apply security, privacy, governance and responsible-AI requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, define standards and coach team members.

Technical Skills

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in data science, machine learning or advanced analytics.
  • Strong experience with Python, SQL, Azure Databricks and PySpark.
  • Strong knowledge of ML techniques, including anomaly detection, classification, clustering, etc.
  • Experience with MLflow, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog and Databricks Workflows.
  • Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD and MLOps practices.
  • Experience with explainable AI, risk scoring and large-scale data processing.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, fraud detection or the public sector is a strong asset.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
