Senior IT Project Manager – SAP Technical Projects

Mission Context

As part of the SAP transformation at STIB and the post-migration stabilization to SAP S/4HANA, several technical projects need to be defined, planned, and executed in order to modernize the SAP architecture, reduce technical debt, and secure the future foundations of the SAP ecosystem.

These projects specifically concern:

  • the migration of SAP PI/PO interfaces to SAP CPI / Integration Suite;
  • the migration or modernization of the Fiori Launchpad to a target based on SAP BTP;
  • the management and monitoring of LCP / Landscape, Connectivity & Platform topics;
  • technical adaptations related to the RISE / ECS environment;
  • coordination of technical impacts between SAP, satellite applications, external partners, and internal STIB teams;
  • preparation for the transition to RUN and AMS.

The Project Manager will join the Business Solutions department and report to the Manager Build & Transform. They will work closely with the SAP, architecture, infrastructure, security, AMS teams, partners, as well as business leads when technical projects have a functional or operational impact.

Mission Objective

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of SAP technical projects aimed at modernizing, securing, and streamlining the SAP environment at STIB.

They will specifically manage:

  • scoping of technical projects;
  • activity planning;
  • coordination between internal and external teams;
  • management of dependencies with business projects and SAP environments;
  • budget monitoring;
  • preparation of arbitration;
  • risk management;
  • project governance;
  • transition to operational support.

The mission requires a strong ability to understand SAP technical topics without necessarily being a SAP architect, but with enough perspective to challenge schedules, identify dependencies, structure decisions, and secure execution.

Job Description

1. Scoping and Structuring SAP Technical Projects

The Project Manager will need to:

  • take over already identified SAP technical initiatives;
  • clarify the objectives, scope, deliverables, and constraints of each project;
  • structure the projects into clear work packages;
  • define schedules, milestones, dependencies, and estimated workloads;
  • identify technical, organizational, contractual, and budget prerequisites;
  • prepare launch and decision files;
  • ensure alignment with the overall SAP roadmap.

Projects may include:

  • SAP PI/PO to SAP CPI / Integration Suite;
  • Fiori Launchpad to SAP BTP / Work Zone / Launchpad Service;
  • technical adaptations post-S/4;
  • SAP connectivity;
  • certificates, endpoints, security, authentication, authorizations;
  • rationalization or migration of interfaces;
  • monitoring SAP environments: DEV, TEST, QAS, PRD;
  • technical topics related to RISE / ECS;
  • preparation for decommissioning of legacy components.

2. Management of PI/PO to CPI Migration

For the integration stream, the PM will coordinate:

  • inventory of existing interfaces;
  • categorization of flows: critical, non-critical, obsolete, to adapt, to migrate;
  • analysis of dependencies with SAP S/4, satellite applications, and external partners;
  • definition of the migration strategy;
  • prioritization of interfaces;
  • coordination of technical analysis;
  • planning of developments, unit tests, integration tests, and cutovers;
  • preparation of RUN support and documentation;
  • monitoring risks related to operational continuity.

The PM must be able to challenge estimates, migration assumptions, and impacts on consuming or emitting applications.

3. Management of Fiori Launchpad to BTP Project

For the Fiori / BTP stream, the PM will manage:

  • analysis of the existing Fiori;
  • identification of used, critical, or obsolete applications;
  • definition of the technical target with architects;
  • coordination with SAP Security, IAM, infrastructure, and workplace teams;
  • analysis of impacts on users;
  • migration or redeployment strategy;
  • access, roles, navigation, performance, and compatibility tests;
  • preparation of go-live and communication;
  • transition to RUN teams.

The PM should pay particular attention to impacts on user experience, security, authentication, SAP roles, and dependencies with business applications.

4. Coordination of LCP / Cross-Functional Technical Topics

The Project Manager will also handle cross-functional technical topics related to the SAP landscape, connectivity, and platform.

This may include:

  • coordination with SAP ECS / RISE;
  • monitoring connectivity topics;
  • certificates, reverse proxy, Web Dispatcher, firewall, ports, DNS;
  • SAP environments and system dependencies;
  • performance, availability, monitoring, and resilience topics;
  • technical impacts of SAP changes on connected applications;
  • monitoring actions with vendors;
  • management of technical escalations;
  • documentation of decisions and risks.

5. Governance, Reporting, and Arbitration

The Project Manager will be responsible for:

  • establishing clear project governance;
  • organizing and leading steering committees;
  • preparing decision-making materials;
  • reporting to IT management;
  • tracking risks, actions, decisions, and dependencies;
  • providing a consolidated view of the SAP technical portfolio;
  • raising alerts in case of schedule, budget, scope, or resource deviations;
  • preparing necessary arbitrations with architecture, security, AMS, and management teams.

Reporting should be clear, factual, and decision-oriented, with the ability to synthesize complex technical topics for non-technical audiences.

6. Preparation for RUN and AMS

The PM must ensure that each SAP technical project properly prepares its operational transition:

  • technical and functional documentation;
  • support procedures;
  • monitoring model;
  • transfer to AMS;
  • clarification of internal/external responsibilities;
  • access and authorization management;
  • hypercare support;
  • rollback or continuity plan if needed.

Desired Profile

The candidate must have solid experience in managing SAP technical projects, ideally in a context of S/4HANA transformation, SAP BTP, application integration, or architecture migration.

Expected Experience

  • proven experience in SAP technical projects;
  • experience in complex and multi-system SAP environments;
  • experience with application integration projects;
  • experience with technical migrations or platform modernizations;
  • experience coordinating SAP vendors, integrators, and internal teams;
  • experience in project governance, budget, planning, risks, and executive reporting.

Additional information: The mission may be renewed for a maximum duration (including the initial period) of: 880 business days.
