Network Security Engineer (Level 3)
Location: Steenokkerzeel / Melsbroek
Timing: Start planned: June/July 2026 – December 2027 (fulltime)
Man-days: 330 (indicative quantity)
Partially remote in consultation with the client
For a long-term and technically challenging assignment, we are looking for a senior Network Security Engineer with in-depth experience in firewalling and network security. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust security infrastructure that protects critical networks against cyber threats, unauthorized access, and data breaches.
Your responsibilities
Network & Security Engineering
- Implementing firewall solutions, VPN configurations, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Integrating security solutions within the broader network design.
Firewall Management
- Configuring, managing, and optimizing firewall environments.
- Regularly updating policies based on new risks and changing needs.
Intrusion Detection & Prevention
- Implementing and managing IDS/IPS technology.
- Analyzing security logs and following up on potential incidents.
VPN Implementation
- Deploying and managing secure VPN connections for employees, partners, and locations.
- Ensuring confidentiality and integrity of all data flows.
Security Auditing & Compliance
- Conducting audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Ensuring compliance with GDPR, PCI DSS, and other relevant standards.
- Contributing to the development and improvement of security policies.
Incident Response
- Investigating security incidents and coordinating remedial actions.
- Implementing improvements based on incident analyses.
Monitoring & Optimization
- Continuously monitoring network traffic and analyzing anomalies.
- Optimizing network performance without compromising security.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborating with system engineers, application teams, and other stakeholders.
- Clearly communicating complex security topics to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
What do you bring?
Experience
- At least 10 years of experience as a Network Engineer within a security context.
- Proven experience with the design, configuration, and management of firewall environments.
- Extensive experience with IDS/IPS, VPNs, auditing, compliance, and incident response.
- Additional asset: experience with Fortinet and IVANTI Pulse Secure.
Technical knowledge
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, architectures, and monitoring tools (SNMP, NetFlow, …).
- In-depth understanding of encryption, security frameworks, and best practices.
- Good knowledge of regulations such as GDPR and PCI DSS.
Skills
- Analytical, structured, and strong in problem-solving.
- Communicative and able to explain complex technical topics clearly.
Education & Certifications (plus, not required)
- Bachelor in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent through experience.
- Certifications such as CISSP or CCNP Security are a valuable asset.
