To replace one of our employees at FOD Financiën/SPF Finance, we are looking for a Senior Test Automation Engineer with a strong focus on backend testing and integrations.

Start: June 2026
Duration: 31/12/2026, with option for extension (2028)
Full-time assignment, partially remote
Language skills: Dutch or French, with good knowledge of English

Responsibilities

• Designing, setting up, and maintaining automated tests with a focus on backend processes
• Testing APIs, integrations, and event-driven flows
• Validating asynchronous communication between systems
• Developing BDD scenarios (Gherkin) and implementing them via automation frameworks
• Integrating tests into the CI/CD pipeline
• Analyzing and debugging complex errors in distributed systems
• Working closely with developers, analysts, and architects
• Actively contributing to test strategy and quality improvement

Must-have skills

• Minimum 8 years of experience
• Strong experience with backend testing
• Demonstrable experience with queuing systems / messaging
• (Kafka, RabbitMQ, JMS or similar)
• Thorough knowledge of asynchronous architectures
• Java as the primary language for test automation
• Experience with automation frameworks (e.g., JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber…)
• Practical experience with CI/CD (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab…)
• Experience with BDD / Gherkin
• Experience within a Java context

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in large enterprise environments
• Knowledge of end-to-end integration testing
• Strong debugging skills in complex landscapes
• Experience with Agile / Scrum
