Smart metering senior study engineer

In the context of further developing use cases based on data from digital meters in Flanders, there is a need for an engineer to elaborate and verify functional requirements and technical specifications, as well as the corresponding detailed protocol development.
The specifications are based on standards and good engineering practices. They form the basis for component, system, and E2E tests of various digital meter components, whether or not interacting with each other.

Context/Requirements

This fits within the rapidly digitizing world where new applications and functionalities are increasingly required based on the data generated by digital meters.
We are looking for a technician who dares to dive deep, down to the bits and bytes.
This requires thorough (existing and demonstrable) knowledge of digital meters, systems, and data communication protocols related to smart metering (DLMS, IDIS, MBUS, OMS, e-MUCS, MV90, (Converge), possibly also IoT-based protocols such as MQTT, JSON,...) as well as a solid background in communication (telco)/ethernet/IPv6-based networks and cybersecurity, …

  • Demonstrable knowledge of test systems, security, automation and reporting of tests, use of common tools such as Jira,…

A new generation of digital (smart) metering solutions needs to evolve, be defined, evaluated, and implemented. For this, various specification, interface, and test documents will need to be drafted and verified. Components that are highly relevant for this include electricity, gas, water, heat, AMR, compact electricity digital meters, and P1 port applications,...

  • On the one hand, there are documents that specify at a functional and technical level what Fluvius expects from the devices and systems.
  • On the other hand, there are documents that lay down in detail how the components must interact with each other and/or communicate with the outside world (interface specifications).
  • The tests must be described accurately to enable qualification with corresponding reporting.
  • Where possible, tests should be automated to enable unambiguous and rapid execution of the test program.

All of this with the aim of developing interoperable digital metering solutions.
