SOC Intake Technician (freelance)

Immerse yourself in the dynamic world of media and technology as an Intake Technician at the Service Operations Center (SOC) and let your technical talent shine at the heart of the action at VRT.

The SOC is the central place within VRT where all audio and video streams flow through. We ensure that what comes in ends up in the right place, monitor the route taken within VRT, and then distribute the finished products to our audience.

Your role as Intake Technician at the SOC offers you the unique opportunity not only to form the backbone of our production processes, but also to have a direct impact on how millions of viewers and listeners in Flanders and far beyond experience our content.

About the role

As an Intake Technician within the Service Operations Center, you are the key figure ensuring that video feeds and video files are seamlessly transferred to our production systems. You not only monitor the technical processes but also make sure that all metadata is correctly entered and linked to the broadcast and production systems.

In addition, you are also partly responsible for the operational and technical realization of both internal and external connections. This makes you an important link in VRT’s production chain, configuring and monitoring the correct signal paths between, among others, captures, studios, news crews, control rooms, and much more.

With your expertise, you keep everything running and serve as the point of contact for both internal and external customers.

What you will do:

  • You ensure the smooth transfer of video material and files to our production systems.
  • You monitor the quality of metadata and ensure accurate linking to various systems.
  • You keep an eye on automated workflows and intervene where necessary.
  • You are ready to assist customers and answer questions about our daily operations.
  • You are also partly responsible for the operational and technical realization of various connections in the operational switching center of VRT.
  • You realize, switch, and monitor audiovisual signals and connections.
  • You operate various equipment (including, for example, encoders and decoders) via software applications.
  • In case of problems, you quickly work out a solution to ensure the continuity of the connections (video, audio, data, intercom, ...).

What do we expect from you?

  • You are technically minded and have an interest in multimedia.
  • You are interested in the latest technological developments.
  • A bachelor’s degree in telecom or electronics (or equivalent through experience) is a plus.
  • You have a good knowledge of current computer systems (Windows 10, 11, external drives, ...).
  • Good knowledge of IT, IP, and networks is definitely an advantage.
  • You are familiar with the world of video formats, encodings, codecs, wrappers, ...
  • You are solution-oriented, flexible, and stress-resistant.
  • You have the necessary empathy to communicate correctly and customer-oriented in all circumstances.
  • You can prioritize and make decisions well, and you are a driven fixer who can work out last-minute solutions when necessary.
  • You have a solid knowledge of English and a basic knowledge of French.
  • You are a team player, integrate easily, and can identify with the objectives of VRT.
  • Given the continuous service, you are willing to work evenings and weekends (on a scheduled basis).

What do we offer you?

You will receive a part-time contract for a freelance assignment via an intermediary for 12 months with the possibility of extension. Extension and rate adjustments are possible by mutual agreement (maximum 3 times extendable and rate adjustments according to the applicable Agoria index).

The assignment will be awarded to one or more parties.
