Description of The Mission

Title of the mission:
Tax advisor

Goal of the mission:
Manage the insurance company’s direct and indirect taxation, ensure compliance with local and international regulations, and optimize the tax burden.

Expected deliveries:
Performed the day-to-day fiscal activities needed for Athora Belgium and its subsidiaries. Performed the documentation of the process and ensure that all needed internal controls are in place and tax audit points can be closed.

Expected role & responsibilities during the mission:

  • Preparing and submitting periodic tax returns (VAT, withholding taxes, insurance taxes, etc.) and ensuring the accuracy of related accounting entries.
  • Participating in monthly and annual closings (preparing, calculating, posting) related to tax provisions in accordance with Belgian GAAP, IFRS, and Solvency II standards.
  • Preparing, documenting, reviewing, and submitting tax returns for Athora Belgium and its subsidiaries.
  • Collecting, verifying, and organizing tax data required for internal and external reporting.
  • Ensuring tax compliance for Athora Belgium and its subsidiaries regarding VAT group, income taxes, and insurance-specific taxes and declarations.
  • Collaborating with Belgian tax authorities during audits or inspections.
  • Monitoring legislative developments in taxation and anticipating their impact on the company.
  • Working closely with the Finance, Legal, Compliance departments and the Athora Group.

Description of The Expected Profile

Knowledge:

  • You hold a Master’s degree in tax law, accounting, economics, or have equivalent experience.
  • You have 3 to 5 years of experience in taxation, ideally in the financial or insurance sector within an international environment.
  • Experience in a tax consultancy firm is a plus.

Competencies:

  • You have excellent knowledge of Belgian taxation (corporate tax, VAT, withholding taxes, various taxes) and are familiar with local accounting standards, IFRS, and Solvency rules related to taxation.

  • You are capable of interpreting and applying complex tax regulations.
  • You are meticulous, organized, able to manage priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • You have an analytical mindset, are solution- and results-oriented, and open-minded.
  • You are able to work and learn quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
