Technical consulting for the implementation of Microsoft Fabric and Power BI

ETNIC (Entreprise pour les Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication) is the IT operator of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. The mission concerns technical support for the implementation of the Microsoft Fabric platform and its components (Data Factory, Data Gen2, Lakehouse, Power BI), with a focus on data integration, environment configuration, and infrastructure security.

  1. Connectivity and Infrastructure

  2. Configuration of the 2 Data Gateways (Acc and Prod), necessary for exchanges between on-premise source systems (IBM DB2, IBM UDB, MS SQL Srv, Denodo, files) and the Microsoft Fabric/Power BI platform.

  3. Validation of connectivity and support for troubleshooting technical issues.

The objective is to provide a robust technical foundation to fully leverage Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, while ensuring the security, maintainability, and scalability of the solution.

  1. Technical Configuration and Security

  2. Setting up roles, connections, and security models on Microsoft Fabric.

  3. Implementation and administration of Power BI and Fabric security groups.
  4. Definition of access policies and best governance practices.

  5. Implementation of Working Environments

  6. Creation and configuration of Development, Acceptance, and Production environments for Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.

  7. Implementation of a release management process: deployment pipeline, version control, management of changes.

  8. Definition and Implementation of ETL Types and Proofs of Concept (POC)

Design and execution of integration flows for different scenarios:

  • CSV → Data Factory → DB2 LUW → Power BI
  • CSV → Data Factory → Azure SQL Database → Power BI
  • CSV → Data Factory → Lakehouse (Parquet files) → Power BI
  • Denodo → Power BI
  • DB2 UDB → Power BI
  • CSV → Data Factory → OneLake → Lakehouse → Power BI
  • XML → Data Factory → OneLake → Lakehouse → Power BI

Performance testing and documentation of key points (file formats, latency, volume, execution costs).
