Your tasks

  • Resolving 2nd and 3rd line network issues (routing, switches, and wireless networks)
  • Monitoring networks and intervening in networks in case of problems
  • Measuring traffic on the operational networks of the police
  • Validation of network concepts
  • Installation and configuration of L2 and L3 switches
  • Development of network architectures for the buildings of the federal police
  • Providing advice to local police zones regarding the architecture of their network
  • Documentation of networks
  • Asset management
  • Site studies related to structured network cabling for fixed and wireless networks
  • Participating in an on-call duty “reachable and callable back” outside normal office hours
  • Determining, following up, and supervising structured data cabling works in police buildings located in the Flemish region
  • Installing data cabling in the data centers

Your talents

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT or equivalent experience
  • French-speaking or Dutch-speaking and willing to work in a multilingual environment (French, Dutch, English)
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in a similar function
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in general technical management (architectural design, equipment and connection selection, evaluation of different proposals, implementation, daily management) of:

  • A WAN of at least 50 sites in a maximum configuration

  • At least 20 local computer networks interconnected via a WAN
  • At least 2 projects for the installation of local networks (structured cabling, architectural design, configuration of active components, implementation) totaling at least 500 connection points in the past 5 years

Essential technical knowledge:

  • LAN and WAN computer networks:

  • Network architecture

  • Network security

  • TCP/IP and its application in fixed and wireless networks (including SNMP, OSPF, BGP)

  • Local Ethernet networks with Layer 2/3 Switching, in particular based on Avaya/Extreme Networks and including VLAN, MLT, and SMLT
  • Wireless networks (wifi), preferably based on Aruba equipment
  • Wide Area networks based on SDSL and VDSL connections (MPLS IP VPN), SD-WAN, wireless connections (Hz), fiber optic connections, and CISCO routers (including: Cisco FlexVPN and PKI certificates)
  • Solutions for managing the performance of a computer network, particularly using the product Truview from Netscout
  • Operation and programming of firewalls
  • Dark fiber connections and the DWDM equipment installed on them, such as ADVA
  • Blade switches and virtual switches in virtualized environments (KVM and VMWare)
