Test Manager

ENVIRONMENT

TEC (‘Transport En Commun’) is one of the main players in mobility and economic, social, and sustainable development in Belgium. With its 5,200 employees and the 120 professions they practice, TEC is a committed company whose members all share a common project: to improve, every day, the performance, friendliness, and sustainability of the public transport offering.

In this context, the Embedded Systems Department (DSE) develops, tests, deploys, and maintains two ranges of technical solutions:

· Onboard Platforms (PFE): developed in C/C++, deployed on rolling stock.

· Operational Assistance Systems (SAE): web solutions in PHP, accessible via browser.

These teams work relatively autonomously, although certain releases require strict coordination: they are capable of developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining their solutions without blocking each other.

MAIN MISSION

As Test Manager, your main objective will be to design, document, and steer the implementation of a department-wide HLTLS (High Level Testing and Launching Strategy), with specific adaptations for PFE and SAE.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy & Governance

· Define a unified testing strategy, adapted to the specifics of each subset (PFE / SAE).

· Translate this strategy into concrete testing practices (functional, integration, performance, robustness, etc.).

· Integrate/define automated tests in a consistent and robust CI/CD pipeline.

· Develop the launching strategy for releases, taking into account inter-system dependencies (SAE / PFE).

Automation & CI/CD

· Design an automated testing architecture covering:

  • Unit, integration, and non-regression tests.

  • Infrastructure and connectivity tests (API, unstable networks, reconnections).

  • Usual non-functional tests

  • Performance tests

· Define CI/CD pipelines, their triggering, and their quality control points.

Management & Coordination

· Coordinate with the managers of the PFE and SAE teams to ensure the alignment of deliverables.

· Monitor quality indicators and evolve the strategy based on field feedback.

Reporting

· The Test Manager is responsible for defining a regular reporting structure so that program and project managers can easily integrate the reports into the structures provided by governance (CoPil, Project Status reports, etc.).

Hierarchical Structure

The Test Manager reports to the Service Managers (PFE and SAE) and to the Program and/or Project Managers.

Operational Contribution

· Directly take charge of certain testing tasks for the SAE part, in collaboration with the development team.

· Write or review test plans, automated scripts, and bug reports.

· Participate in agile ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum (optional), Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.

RELATED MISSION

Given the size of TEC’s Software Factory for embedded systems (± 30 people), the Test Manager cannot be content with only establishing a testing strategy: they must also be able to get hands-on and assist the existing test team. The interview will cover both aspects: main mission and related mission.

Profile Sought

· Proven experience (5+ years) as a Test Manager or Lead QA in embedded (or strong hardware interaction) and web environments.

· Very good command of testing methods (ISTQB is a plus).

· Knowledge of embedded (C/C++) and web PHP environments.

· Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, etc.) and test management tools (XRay, TestRail, etc.).

· Solid understanding of unstable connected environments: handling network errors, smart recovery, robustness validation.

· Ability to write structuring documents and formalize a global strategy.

· Autonomy, rigor, team spirit.

· Good communication skills (oral and written), in French and English.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

· Mission duration: 6 months renewable

· Availability: immediate

· Schedule: Full time, 2 days remote work, 3 days on site (Namur)
