Profile Description UX Architect
The Commissariat General for Refugees and Stateless Persons is a federal independent administration. The mission of the CGRS is to provide protection to individuals who, if returned to their country of origin, are at risk of persecution or serious harm. In accordance with Belgian, European, and international standards, the CGRS examines each request for international protection in an individual, objective, and impartial manner.
Within the CGRS, a modernization process has been initiated, translated within the eDossier program. It is a very ambitious program, consisting of several projects, with a very tight schedule. To further shape and develop the program, we are looking for strong profiles who are willing to commit temporarily (fixed-term contracts (time and means), immediately terminable, extendable through positive evaluation) until delivery, foreseen at least until the end of 2027.
One of the profiles we are looking for is a Product (UX/UI) Designer, expert level (+10 years of experience). If you do not have 10 years of experience with ux/ui design within software applications, your application will not be considered (mandatory).
A description of the tasks and required competencies can be found below. You will form a team with other very experienced, highly competent, and motivated individuals.

If you are looking for 4 days of telework, you will also be disappointed with us. To foster team spirit, we ask that you are present in the office 3 days a week. Our offices are located next to the Brussels South station.
- Higher education degree, short or long type, obtained at a recognized college or university within the European Union, is mandatory (diploma must be present together with CV on the pro unity platform)
- Continuously self-educating to stay up to date with the latest sustainable trends and innovations within the domains of ux and ui
- 10 years hands-on experience with User eXperience design for larger software applications (>50 single page screens and >500 users)
- 10 years hands-on experience with User Interface design for larger software applications (>50 single page screens and >500 users)
- 5 years hands-on experience with creating wireframes and clickable prototypes (preferably within Figma)
- 5 years hands-on experience with design frameworks such as design sprints, design Ops, design thinking
- 5 years hands-on experience with (micro) interaction design
- 5 years hands-on experience with developing information architectures
- 5 years hands-on experience with the use, configuration, and management of a design system
- 5 years hands-on experience with javascript, html, and CSS
- 5 years hands-on experience with integrating WCAG guidelines
- 5 years hands-on experience with setting up, executing, and correctly interpreting qualitative and quantitative user tests and/or feedback sessions
- 5 years experience with (collaborating) within large agile delivery teams
- Knowledge of the Angular framework and typescript is an asset
- Ability to propose alternative solutions and make recommendations regarding the choices to be made, taking into account the full context
- Good listener, flexible attitude, and able to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
I. Languages
Due to the nature of the tasks and the client base (bilingual working environment), as well as our internal way of working, a good (at least active) knowledge of Dutch, French, and English is absolutely required and necessary.
II. Task Package
You are an energetic UX/UI software designer with a passion for software applications and a positive can-do mentality. You are a team player who works as a core member within a multidisciplinary and cross-functional team, with the primary driver being: the client.
As a UX/UI software designer, you contribute to achieving the goal of the team. You support the CGRS in delivering quality products to our clients. You work together with software and solution engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders. Therefore, commitment to joint problem-solving, advanced design, and delivery is essential.
As a UX designer, you will design one or more digital products within the CGRS, with an emphasis on usability, accessibility, and user-friendliness. This includes, among other things, understanding the needs and goals of users, creating wireframes and clickable prototypes, conducting user tests, and iteratively improving the design based on feedback.
As a user researcher, you will gain insight into who the user is and what their needs are through qualitative and/or quantitative research.
As a workshop facilitator, you will organize and facilitate workshops with stakeholders to support and guide the various phases of the project.
As a UX architect, you will align all collected information about the product context, the user, and the organization's goals into a coherent and effective structure. As a UX architect, you will design a user-friendly blueprint that meets user and business goals by fully delivering wireframes and prototypes.
As a UI designer, you will design one or more digital products within the CGRS, with an emphasis on the visual design of the product's interface, such as layout, color scheme, typography, icons, and interaction elements, taking into account the CGRS style guide, the already existing design system, and the WCAG provisions.
You are able to create a seamless and enjoyable user experience that is both functional and aesthetically appealing.
You have extensive technical expertise and use your technical expertise and experience not only to assess the feasibility of the digital products but also to contribute to all sprint events (planning, refinements, retrospectives, demos).
You continuously develop your own expertise while gathering, updating, and sharing knowledge about new tools & practices within the team.
III. The Interview
Based on the pre-selection by the Pro Unity platform, candidates are invited for an individual interview to assess motivation, soft skills, as well as understanding of the role and hard skills (required competencies, level of experience, level of expertise, language skills).
Invitations for interviews are made in waves/contingents of a maximum of 5 people. If none of the candidates in a wave or contingent are selected by the jury, the candidates in the next wave will be invited for an individual interview. This process is repeated until the jury has selected a candidate.
