The project

  • The Schengen Information System (SIS), created in 1995, is the most used and largest information exchange system for security and border management in Europe to address the absence of checks at the internal borders of Schengen countries.
  • The SIS contains alerts on persons and objects with associated measures to be taken. These alerts are entered and consulted by the competent national authorities of the member states.
  • The SIS consists of a central part (CSIS) and a national part (NSIS). The national part is developed and managed within dri/binat.
  • In 2013, the second generation of the SIS (SIS II) was introduced, with additional features, such as the ability to add fingerprints and photos to alerts.
  • In March 2023, the SIS was renewed (SIS Recast) with new alerts, improved data, and more advanced functions.

What will your tasks be?

  • Designing, developing, maintaining, upgrading, and testing IT applications based on prior functional and technical analyses.
  • Ensuring quality control and development of multi-user, high availability, and high visibility applications.
  • Keeping up with technological developments
  • Provide technical advice in your specific area of expertise and propose possible project adjustments.
  • Analyzing user requirements.
  • Writing technical documentation.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the applications.
  • Provide adequate technical support for the applications.
  • Offer assistance/coaching to your colleagues.
  • Work on the full development cycle, Back (Web-Services) and Front-End

Your talents

  • A degree or diploma in computer science or equivalent by experience.
  • French or Dutch speaking and willing to work in a multilingual environment (French, Dutch, English)

  • PHP 5.6 & 7, Javascript
  • Angular JS, Ajax, JQuery
  • Various PHP Frameworks (CodeIgniter)

  • Web Services REST (PHP knowledge)

Start date: 01/09/2026 (asap)
Duration: until the end of 2026 (extendable)
Work regime: full-time (40 hours/week)
Workplace: Rue Royale 202A, 1000 Brussels
Employment conditions: presence in the office at least 2 times per week depending on tasks and in consultation with the team, telework allowed (in Belgium)
Team: multidisciplinary, mix of internal and external staff
